Culture meets medicine: Opera Incognita stages the opera "Alceste" at LMU Klinikum Großhadern
Until 13 September, a performance will take place there every Friday and Saturday, organized by the Opera Incognita ensemble. The team stages an opera in an unusual location every year: previous venues have included the Palace of Justice and Müller'sche Volksbad.
To mark its 20th anniversary, Opera Incognita is performing Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera "Alceste" at the LMU Klinikum, where the ensemble once opened its program with an opera by Gluck. The choice of location is no coincidence, as the ancient legend deals with questions of human existence and the fight against illness and death: King Admetus is dying. When the oracle is asked whether there is no salvation for the king, the gods announce their verdict: the king will remain alive if someone else dies in Admetus' place. Against the fierce opposition of her husband, Queen Alcestis decides to go to her death for her husband.

"I'm really looking forward to the coming weekends, because not only are we bringing the opera to the LMU Klinikum, we are also giving the medical space an artistic face for a short time, an exciting moment," says Prof. Markus M. Lerch, Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of the LMU Klinikum.
The performances will take place on three weekends (29.8., 30.8., 5.9., 6.9., 12.9. and 13.9.). Tickets can be purchased via München Ticket.
