Interdisciplinary, patient-centered care in the oncology day clinic at LMU Klinikum Großhadern
The interdisciplinary oncology day clinic combines the expertise of various specialist departments under the coordination of the Comprehensive Cancer Center - CCC MünchenLMU. The Medical Clinic II (Gastroenterology and Hepatology), Medical Clinic III (Oncology and Hematology), Urology and, for the first time, the Women's Clinic work closely together here. Prof. Dr. Markus M. Lerch, Medical Director of the LMU Clinic, emphasizes the strategic importance: "The interdisciplinary day clinic is a model for modern, centre-based oncology: interdisciplinary, coordinated and close to the patient."
What does the oncology day clinic offer patients?
- Central point of contact: All oncological treatments are coordinated in one place - especially day-clinic therapies with chemotherapy, immunotherapy or antibody therapies.
- Interdisciplinary care: Various specialists coordinate directly and jointly develop a personalized treatment plan according to the specialist tumor board. The medical and nursing team is supported by the respective study centers as well as by the supporting areas of psycho-oncology, nutritional counseling and social services and, if necessary, by palliative medical advice. Oncological nursing is qualified for all tumor entities and special features.
- Optimized processes: The processes between the specialist departments and the clinic's own pharmacy have been synchronized. The entire spectrum of oncology is now covered in ward F5, particularly by specialist nursing. In addition, oncology coaches support patients throughout their treatment. A standardized and digital screening for supportive services helps to determine patients' individual needs. The support services offered by the CCC MünchenLMU and the patient house can be individually arranged for patients and their relatives.
- Modern equipment: New room concepts with shared therapy areas have been created, with the continuation of the specialist expertise and management of the respective clinic directors and department heads*.
- Scientific offerings in clinical studies and healthcare research
The support services offered by the CCC MünchenLMU and the patient house can be individually arranged for patients and relatives. "The new structure of the oncology day clinic combines medical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration, support services and personal guidance from oncologists. This enables coordinated, efficient and patient-oriented care," says Prof. Dr. Volker Heinemann, Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center - CCC MünchenLMU.
Prof. Dr. Rachel Würstlein, Head Senior Physician of the Breast Center and Oncology Day Clinic of the Women's Clinic at the LMU Clinic, adds: "The entire team has created a great asset for our clinic with the interdisciplinary day clinic, but above all for our oncology patients."
