On 9 July 2025, Minister President Dr. Markus Söder awarded Professor Nadia Harbeck the Bavarian Order of Merit for her services to breast cancer research.

Minister President Dr. Markus Söder: "That was a special day with special people. The Order of Merit is a very exclusive club and Bavaria's highest award alongside the 'Maxorden'. There are only a maximum of 2,000 living recipients of the Order. All of them are unique personalities in very different areas of life. The Order cannot be bought or inherited - you have to earn it. Not all of the Order's recipients are in the limelight themselves, but they are all role models and encouragers. They embody in a special way what Bavaria is all about. Congratulations and many thanks. Please keep up the good work!"

Prof. Dr. Nadia Harbeck, Head of the Breast Center and Professor of Conservative Oncology at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the University Hospital of Munich, is one of the world's leading experts in the field of breast cancer research. With her innovative research work, she has made decisive progress in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, thereby improving the survival and quality of life of affected patients in the long term. As a multi-award-winning scientist and committed mentor, she is also passionately committed to promoting young scientific talent. Prof. Dr. Nadia Harbeck thus impressively combines excellent research with social responsibility.

Professor Harbeck: "For me personally, as a native of Munich, this prestigious award from my home town is a great honor and pleasure and, of course, an incentive for our continued work for the benefit of our patients. But I also see the Bavarian Order of Merit as recognition for our team here at the LMU Breast Center and for my study group, the West German Study Group (WSG), for the great commitment of everyone in patient care and research."
