Successful start: First career day for nurses at the LMU Hospital

The LMU Klinikum celebrated the successful launch of its first career day for nurses at the Großhadern campus. Over 100 interested people took the opportunity to find out more about the diverse fields of work and development opportunities in around 20 specialist areas of nursing and functional services.
The first career day for nurses at LMU Hospital took place on June 27, 2025.

The event was opened by Nursing Director and Board Member Carolin Werner, who emphasized: "Nursing is demanding, meaningful and offers numerous career paths today more than ever. With this day, we want to show how diverse and future-proof nursing at the LMU Klinikum is." Her deputy Sascha Opalka added: "Our aim is to attract talented people to nursing and to show that we actively promote development and specialization."

The day began with a keynote speech by Professor Inge Eberl from the Institute of Nursing Sciences, who emphasized the importance of academization in the nursing profession. She showed how nurses with a Bachelor's or Master's degree can be deployed in the care sector in order to strengthen patient care in the long term.

A wide range of presentations provided exciting insights into the most diverse areas of everyday hospital life: topics such as intercultural team development, presented by Heike Penner, or the services offered by occupational health management were on the agenda, as were specialized insights into intensive care, cardiac surgery, neonatology, oncological gynaecology, psychiatric DBT therapy or shock room care in paediatrics.

The guided tours of the operating theater and the intensive care unit were particularly popular - here, visitors were able to experience first-hand how demanding and fascinating everyday nursing work is. The "speed dating" was also very popular, where interested parties were able to talk directly to ward managers and experienced nursing staff about individual career paths.

At the end of the day, the organizers drew a thoroughly positive conclusion. "Today has shown: Nursing at LMU Hospital is diverse, professional and offers first-class development opportunities," said Nursing Director Carolin Werner. "We are very pleased about the great interest - and we are certain that this was the start of a new tradition."
