The LMU Klinikum at the Christopher Street Day (CSD) 2025
In sunny summer weather, the procession marched through Munich, from Mariahilfsplatz across Reichenbachbrücke and on to Sendlinger Tor Platz and Stachus to Ludwigstraße, with hundreds of thousands of people cheering, celebrating and waving their own rainbow-colored flags along the way. The CSD is part of Pride Month, which takes place in June and is celebrated in many parts of the world. The focus is on the demand for tolerance, acceptance, legal and social equality for people from the LGBTIQ* community.
Taking to the streets together - for diversity, acceptance and tolerance
The LMU Hospital was represented at the CSD for the third time with its own team of employees and students. Andrea Förster, Head of Nursing at LMU City Center Hospital, initiated participation in the CSD in 2023. A campaign that Nursing Director Carolin Werner also supports: "Diversity makes us strong - in life, in nursing and in our hospital," says Carolin Werner. "As a university hospital, we have a special social responsibility - not only in nursing and medical care, but also in the way we work together. Diversity, respect and openness are values that we live by and that shape our day-to-day work and our culture. The CSD is an important occasion to make this attitude visible."
"For me as Head of Nursing and co-organizer of the LMU Klinikum's CSD participation, it is a matter close to my heart to send a clear signal for diversity, tolerance and mutual respect," says Andrea Förster. "CSD is more than just a demonstration. It stands for visibility, equality and commitment against discrimination. Especially in a hospital as large as ours, where we work with and for people every day, it is essential that everyone feels accepted and valued."
Once again this year, employees from a wide range of professional groups at the hospital were represented. "It's an honor to walk in the parade for our employer," says Ulrike Ebenhöch from Medical Clinic IV. Sandra Schedlbauer from the Neurology Clinic adds: "As employees, we stand by each other and support each other. That's what makes our hospital special, which is why I've been working there for so long."
"With 12,000 employees from 124 countries, diversity is part of our DNA at LMU Klinikum," emphasizes Prof. Markus Lerch, Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of LMU Klinikum. "But diversity does not only apply to origin and mother tongue, of course, but also to ideology, religious beliefs or sexual orientation. That's why we are taking part in Christopher Street Day for the third time."
