Prof. Dr. Jan-Frederik Güth is the new Director of the Polyclinic for Dental Prosthetics at the LMU Clinic
The dentist also holds a chair at LMU Munich
"It's a bit like coming home," says Prof. Dr. med. dent. Jan-Frederik Güth. Born in the Black Forest, he is a son of LMU: it was here that he completed his studies (until 2007) and his subsequent dissertation (2008). And after a research stay at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, he continued at LMU, where he habilitated in 2014 and then worked as a senior consultant at the Polyclinic for Dental Prosthetics.
In 2021, he was appointed to the Chair of Dental Prosthetics at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, where he was Director of the Polyclinic for Dental Prosthetics at the Center for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine until his move to Munich. In Frankfurt, Prof. Güth was also significantly involved in the implementation of the new dental licensing regulations as Dean of Studies in Dentistry and a member of the departmental board.
In Munich, the 44-year-old is entering familiar territory: "Of course, I know most of the staff at the clinic from my time here," says the new head. Where will he focus? "Interdisciplinary treatments are the core business at a university hospital, where we work hand in hand with the other clinics for the benefit of patients," says Prof. Güth. New digital technologies and their application will definitely be a major topic:The main focus will be on digital functional diagnostic procedures, the patient-specific, automated production of dentures using AI applications, innovative 3D printing processes and materials or the clinical long-term behavior of new forms of restoration.
"The Executive Board is delighted to have gained Jan-Frederik Güth, a colleague who is as clinically experienced as he is a leader, for the Directorate of the Dental Clinic. Welcome on board, Prof. Güth," said Prof. Markus M. Lerch, Chairman of the Board of the LMU Clinic.
"For me, it's not just about what is technologically possible, but at least as important is whether it represents added value for our patients," emphasizes Prof. Güth. He also wants to implement digital content in student teaching as quickly as possible. He is looking forward to his new position at one of the largest clinical institutions in his field in Germany: "It's a challenge, of course, but also a very rewarding task," says Prof. Jan-Frederik Güth.
