The prize was established after Bayer scientists were awarded the German President's Future Prize in 2009 for their invention of the anticoagulant Xarelto®.

Dr. Annemieke ter Telgte is being honored for her groundbreaking research on cerebral small vessel disease, which has significantly improved our understanding of the pathophysiology of the disease, its diagnosis and its impact on patients. Their innovative approaches and findings are helping to improve the treatment and management of this complex disease and make life easier for those affected.

Dr. Kami Pekayvaz is being honored for his groundbreaking work in translational thrombosis research, focusing on the interplay between thrombosis and inflammation in cardiovascular and infectious diseases. His research has opened up important new perspectives for understanding the mechanisms of thrombosis and could provide crucial insights for future therapeutic approaches.

With these awards, we recognize the outstanding achievements of both researchers and their significant contributions to thrombosis research. The award ceremony will take place on February 18, 2025 at the meeting of the German Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (GTH) in Lausanne.
