PhD program, doctoral studies, and DAAD scholarship program

The Tropical Institute has decades of experience with doctoral theses in the fields of tropical medicine, travel medicine, international and global health. In 2010, the first PhD program of the Medical Faculty of the LMU Munich was introduced: the PhD program Medical research - International Health. As a sandwich program, it is one of the first of its kind in Germany, offering the implementation of locally planned research projects in partner countries in low- and middle-income countries, which contributes to strengthening local research agendas and the academic landscape.

The DAAD funding program EPOS (Development-Related Postgraduate Courses) offers financial support for candidates pursuing the PhD in International Health at the Center for International Health (CIH).

PhD International Health

The PhD program Medical Research - International Health was initiated in 2010 and has since accepted over 100 doctoral students. It is a structured full-time doctoral program in English. As a sandwich program, the doctoral projects are planned and set up by the candidates together with their local co-supervisors. This promotes local relevance and responsibility. The spectrum of work is very broad and ranges from infectiology, non-communicable diseases, health systems research to international health and global health topics.
