Competence Center for Continuing Education
Competence Center for Continuing Education in General Practice Bavaria (KWAB)
A new body was established in 2017 to provide the next generation of general practitioners with optimal support on their path to becoming specialists. Its founders are the chairs of general medicine at the universities of Munich, Erlangen-Nuremberg and Würzburg - together with the Bavarian Medical Association (BLÄK), the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Bavaria (KVB), the Coordination Office for General Practice (KoStA) and the Bavarian General Practitioners' Association (BHÄV).
The services offered by the Competence Center are aimed at improving the quality of the content of further training in general practice and supplement existing measures of the cooperation partners to safeguard general practice care in Bavaria.
Under the umbrella of the Competence Center, we offer doctors undergoing further training to become specialists in general practice regular seminars to accompany their further training. Each participant is offered four full-day events per year. In addition, a mentoring program is set up to provide each young colleague in training with an experienced GP colleague. Teachers are also supported by the competence center: To this end, train-the-trainer seminars are offered for doctors authorized to provide further training in order to strengthen them in their knowledge-transfer role and thus optimize the quality of further training in practice.
The Institute of General Medicine at the University Hospital Erlangen has taken over the lead and coordination of the competence center. "I am delighted that all the cooperation partners here in Bavaria are pulling together and making an important contribution to safeguarding GP care in Bavaria," says Dr. Marco Roos, Managing Director of the competence center. The Competence Center for Further Training in General Practice in Bavaria is an important institution for motivating the next generation of general practitioners by improving the quality of further training.
