The block placement in General Practice is anchored in Module 6 of the curriculum.
Important: All students are guaranteed a place on the General Practice block placement!
All students in Module 6 who have completed Module 23 are guaranteed a place for the introductory day and a practical placement when they register for OC.
All students who cannot complete the block placement in Module 6 for curricular reasons are guaranteed a place in a semester break* before the planned state examination thanks to the option of special registration. Students are entitled to this special registration:
- Students with module 6 before module 23
- Full-time doctoral students in Module 6 with a scholarship
- Students who took Module 6 in the summer semester 2021 or earlier
* as soon as you are in the 8th semester and have completed both Module 23 and the General Medicine seminar. The last possible semester break is the semester break in the same year from mid-February to April if the state examination is planned for the fall, and the semester break in the previous year from August to mid-October if the state examination is planned for the spring.

FAQs:
1. can the block internship also be done in a "normal" GP practice?
The block internship can only be completed at specially suitable teaching practices at LMU Munich. As the practices decide individually each semester whether and when they offer block internship places, the offer varies. For this reason, it is only possible to book internships via the OC booking portal.
2. is there a list of teaching practices in advance?
The teaching practices decide individually each semester whether and when they offer block internships. Once you have successfully registered for the introductory day, you can view a list of the teaching practices for the relevant period under "Resources".
3. are full-time doctoral students without a scholarship also guaranteed a place for the semester break?
No, as in consultation with the doctoral office, these students are allowed to do the block internship during their doctorate in module 6.
4. can I do the introductory day during the semester, but the block internship during the semester break?
No. The introductory day and block internship must always be completed in the same period: both in the semester or both in the semester break.
5. is there an alternative or substitute for the introductory day?
Unfortunately not. Attendance at the introductory day is compulsory.
6. can the block internship be completed in any semester break?
Students who have a guaranteed place for the semester break due to a special quota can do the block internship in a vacation period (after completing Module 23 and the General Medicine seminar) before the state examination. Please ensure that you plan your clinical traineeships accordingly. The guaranteed place via the special contingent can only be redeemed once.
For your planning: the last possible vacations for the internship are the semester break in the same year from mid-February to April if the state examination is planned for the fall, and the semester break in the previous year from August to mid-October if the state examination is planned for the spring.
Students who register for the remaining places on a first-come-first-serve basis can do the block internship in any semester break as soon as they are in the 8th semester and have completed both Module 23 and the General Practice seminar.
7 When and how do I register for the special contingent?
Please register before the vacation period in which you would like to redeem the guaranteed place with the necessary proof by e-mail to: katja.scheidmoll@med.uni-muenchen.de
(Proof: for module 6 before 23 no proof necessary, for full-time research with scholarship please confirm from the doctoral office)
For the upcoming semester break (August 11 to October 10, 2025) , this would be the week from June 23 to 30, 2025. We ask for your understanding that we will check the requests collectively.
Block internship in the practice:
Once you have successfully booked your internship, please contact the practice on your own responsibility and find out about starting times and working hours. An internship period of 72 hours is specified. The actual working hours are determined by the practice in consultation with the students.
Please print out the logbook (can be found on moodle) before the internship and take it with you to the practice. During the internship, you should work on the cases contained in the logbook. If your teaching practice is characterized by certain special features (HIV outpatient clinic, addiction prevention, home visit...), you can define and work on additional tasks in consultation with the teaching doctor.
Please write an epicrisis/doctor's report according to the SOAP scheme as part of the internship, discuss it with your teaching doctor and have it approved. Please note that your epicrisis will also be assessed by a member of staff at the institute.
Please send the epicrisis in PDF format together with the scanned logbook within 2 weeks of the end of your internship period to the following e-mail address: allgemeinmedizin@med.uni-muenchen.de.
The overall grade for the internship is made up of:
. Assessment of the performance in the practice by the teaching doctor
2. Assessment of the written case preparation of an independently completed medical report (epicrisis) including telephone appointment
