PRIMA-Plus pilot study: Psychotherapeutic support after a traumatic birth
The PRIMA-Plus project is being supported with 13,300 euros as part of the WiFoMed funding program. The funding enables the implementation of a pilot study to improve GP care for women with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a stressful birth experience.
The aim of PRIMA-Plus is to investigate the feasibility, acceptance and relevance of a brief psychotherapeutic intervention specially adapted for GP practices. A GP-led short version of Narrative Exposure Therapy is used. The intervention comprises three structured sessions and a short debriefing and is aimed at women who develop PTSD-like symptoms within the first year after a live birth.
PRIMA-Plus is intended to test whether low-threshold, prompt and practical psychotherapeutic support from GPs can be implemented for this special patient clientele in primary care. The results of the pilot study should form a basis for the further development of the care concept and for a larger follow-up study.
GPs who are interested in participating in the study or would like further information are cordially invited to contact us:
