Patients with mental stress after intensive care
Life-threatening illnesses are not only a physical but also an emotional burden. Around 1/3 of all patients treated in intensive care units still suffer from these experiences months to years later.
Uncontrollable memories often occur and fears arise that affect patients' lives to varying degrees. Feeling less joy, being more anxious or no longer being able to sleep well are further examples of the diverse symptoms. This is referred to as post-traumatic stress.
