Study participation
Evaluation & study duration
The new instrument will be tested in two runs (piloting, main study) starting in July 2022. For this purpose, patients with depressive symptoms will be interviewed by their GPs in a standardised interview (approx. 15-20 minutes) after an educational talk. Afterwards, the patients receive a few more questionnaires to fill out (about 20 minutes). Both the doctors and the participating patients receive compensation for this service.
Possible advantages of participating in the study
With your participation, you support our clinical research project in order to hopefully be able to better recognise suicidality in high-risk patients in Germany in the future and to take preventive measures. Within the framework of this study, a newly developed questionnaire is to be transferred into a short version and validated, and its applicability in general practice is to be tested. Should good diagnostic parameters emerge and show good applicability in GP practice, this will provide a time-efficient and valid screening instrument for the future as a contribution to suicide prevention in adults. The protective factors will provide starting points for possible interventions.
Possible risks of participating in the study
Since this is a non-invasive diagnostic study, no patient risk is usually expected when conducting this study. Actively asking about possible suicidal thoughts/suicide plans has not been shown to increase the risk of suicide.
