Domains
General information
Only so-called "second-level domains" are registered by MIT if they "belong" to the LMU Klinikum, i.e. if the LMU Klinikum is indicated as the "domain holder", "administrative contact" and "technical contact".
Procedure
The following steps are taken when applying for new domains (second-level domains) for websites in cooperation projects:
- Application: Create an ITEMS ticket via the user service, which is then assigned to the Web Requirements and Services department. Please provide the following information in the ticket:
- Cost center from which the domain is to be procured (costs approx. 10-25 euros for two years depending on the provider)
- URL of the website or URL of the menu item of the website to which we should point the domain.
- Check: the cost center is checked (is this specified)
- Procurement: After the check, the domain is procured and registered for the hospital.
- Configuration: We then configure the second-level domain on the name and web server so that it can be called up with and without "www":
- www.second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
- second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
The redirection is always set up so that the domain with "www" is displayed in the URL line of the browser.
Freedoms for domain specifications for cooperation websites
The second-level domains of cooperation websites do not have to be forwarded behind the domain http://www.klinikum.uni-muenchen.de/, but can remain in the URL line of the website. The prerequisite for this is that at least one external, equal cooperation partner (outside the LMU Klinikum) is involved and that the website is located in the WCMS Fiona of the LMU Klinikum.
Note: In addition to the freedom of domains, there is also freedom of corporate design and imprint for such websites in the LMU Klinikum's WCMS Fiona.
General information
At the LMU Klinikum, a distinction is made in domain registration as to whether
- the domains should/must be covered by budget costs
- the domains should/must be covered by third-party funds
- the domains should/must be covered by funds from commercial business operations.
Procedure
- Cost center refers to commercial business operations
- Registration of domains is carried out independently by the "commercial business"
- The domain owner must, as usual, be the LMU Klinikum (or <NAME WIRTSCHAFTLICHER GESCHÄFTSBETRIEB>), LMU Klinikum
- The administrative and technical contact person must be an employee of the "commercial business operations".
- All configuration work on name servers and web servers that are not subordinate to MIT is carried out and is the responsibility of the "business operations" department itself.
General information
Only so-called "second-level domains" will be registered by MIT if they "belong" to the LMU Klinikum, i.e. if the LMU Klinikum is listed as the "domain owner", "administrative contact" and "technical contact".
If the domain is to be used for another purpose (other applications at the LMU Klinikum), a check will be carried out and the request may be forwarded to an MIT service request. Decision by MIT management.
Procedure
The following steps are taken when applying for new domains (second-level domains) for applications:
- Application: Create an ITEMS ticket via the user service, which is then assigned to the Web Requirements and Services department. Please provide the following information in the ticket:
- Cost center from which the domain is to be procured (costs approx. 25-30 euros for two years depending on the provider)
- URL to the application or IP address at which it can be accessed.
- Check: the cost center will be checked (if specified) and the exact project requirements for the domain request will be clarified with the user:
- What is the intended use of the domain, what is the rough project context?
- If necessary, the ticket is forwarded to an MIT service request
- Procurement: depending on the result of the above check or the MIT service request, the domain is procured and registered for the LMU Klinikum or the applicant receives an appropriately formulated response with reasons in the event of a rejection.
- Configuration: The second-level domain is configured on the name and web server so that it can be called up with and without "www":
- www.second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
- second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
General
Only so-called "second-level domains" will be renewed by MIT if they "belong" to the LMU Klinikum, i.e. if the LMU Klinikum is indicated as the "domain holder", "administrative contact" and "technical contact".
Procedure
- Request: Time extensions of domains come to us via the contract department, via the third-party funds office or via the IT officer(s) or via an ITEMS ticket.
- Check: the cost center is checked (if this is specified) and the project requirements for the domain request are clarified with the user, if this is not known.
- The domain is used for a web presence in the WCMS Fiona of the LMU Klinikum: The domain costs for renewal are automatically approved and made by us.
- If the domain is used for a website outside the LMU Klinikum: the possibility of moving to the server and service architecture of the Klinikum is checked and the domain costs are approved depending on the further procedure:
- If the website can be completely relocated, the WAD staff unit will support the user(s) with the relocation planning.
- If the website can be partially relocated, the WAD staff unit supports the user(s) with the partial relocation planning and advises which parts must/can continue to be taken over by external service providers (outsourcing).
- If the check shows that the website cannot be moved to the server and service architecture of the LMU Klinikum (WCMS Fiona of the LMU Klinikum), this is fed back to the MIT management. A decision will be made as to whether the website can remain in its current form or whether a service request must be sent to MIT to integrate the website elsewhere.
- If the domain is used for another purpose (application operated by the LMU Klinikum itself): If the check shows that this cannot be implemented with the possibilities of the WCMS Fiona of the LMU Klinikum, the domain costs for the extension are automatically approved and carried out by us.
- Extension: After the check, the domain will be extended for the LMU Klinikum or, if necessary, moved to the LMU Klinikum and then extended.
- Configuration: The second-level domain is then configured on the name and web server so that it can be accessed with and without "www":
- www.second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
- second-level-domain.<ending, e.g. de>
"International" and "multilingual" are two terms that are sometimes used interchangeably, but which have very specific meanings when referring to websites.
An "international" website is intended for an international audience and caters to the language, customs and traditions of that international audience. A "multilingual" website has one main language and the content may be offered in more than one language.
General rules for multilingual websites
Examples:
- http://domain-des-klinikums.de/de/index.html
- http://www.domain-des-klinikums.de/en/index.html
- http://domain-des-klinikums.de/en/index.html
The use of subdomains is NOT intended, e.g:
- http://de.domain-des-klinikums.de/index.html
Examples of multilingual websites at the hospital:
Despite the need to support the web presence of the LMU Klinikum in the best possible way with various domain calls and the knowledge that marketing measures are supported by the use of individual domains on business cards, flyers, posters, films, etc., not just any domains can be registered at the LMU Klinikum.
The following domains are excluded from general registration
- Second-level domains that denigrate the LMU Klinikum
- Second-level domains that contain employee names
- Second-level domains that could be reserved by several institutions. The aim here is to exclude and prevent the "first come, first served" rule from applying. Such "overlapping domains" cannot be approved either. Domains that fall under this rule cannot be registered at the LMU Klinikum and are generally rejected upon application.
