KD-CAR: Kawasaki Disease Coronary Assessment Registry

Kawasaki Disease: Understanding long-term effects and providing more targeted treatment

Kawasaki Disease can lead to significant changes in the coronary arteries, particularly coronary artery aneurysms. Due to the disease’s low prevalence, there is a lack of systematically collected clinical data. In particular, the data available on long-term complications caused by coronary artery changes is very limited.

As a result, key questions regarding the optimal long-term clinical management of these patients cannot currently be adequately answered:

  • Which diagnostic procedure should be used for which patient group and for what purpose?
  • Which treatment options (medication, intervention, surgery) are most effective in the long term?

These unanswered questions make evidence-based care difficult and require targeted scientific investigation. Therefore, we started the European Kawasaki Disease – Coronary Assessment Registry (KD-CAR).
