Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Main Fields of Research
Our main research activities focus on the generation of multimodal structured data sets (clinical images, histopathological results and images, patients’ history) in order to develop state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms.
In the future, these algorithms will support medical staff in their daily work in order to improve patients’ treatment. Our data sets are fully annotated by highly experienced, certified dermatologists, as well as profoundly tested and evaluated in the Department of Dermatology and Allergology, LMU Klinikum.
The group works together with further partners including the Department of Informatics (Prof. Dr. Nassir Navab, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tobias Lasser, Technical University of Munich), the Department of Radiology (Bastian Sabel, MD, Prof. Michael Ingrisch, LMU Klinikum) and the Department of Ethics (Prof. Alena Buyx, Institute of History and Ethics in Medicine, Technical University of Munich).

The LMU Klinikum is currently implementing the new modular hospital information platform from Avelios Medical, which optimizes the clinical documentation and workflows, as well as automatically generates structured data in the background during daily clinical work. With these new extended data sets the research group can bring their existing algorithms to a new level.
