Our Mission

Chronic affective disorders such as persistent depressive disorder often do not respond sufficiently to standard treatments and are associated with substantial burden. We study interpersonal processes that may contribute to their persistence, particularly childhood adversity and loneliness, and use smartphone-based Ecological Momentary Assessment, digital biomarkers, and analyses of digital social environments including the use of AI tools to examine how these processes unfold in everyday life. Building on this, we investigate how evidence-based psychotherapy, in particular the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP), can be stratified and augmented through digital and pharmacological strategies. Our work is embedded in collaborative research networks including the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG).

In deutscher & einfacher Sprache

Research Lines

Digital Mental Health

How symptoms, interpersonal experiences, and behavior unfold in everyday life and in digital social environments — studied with Ecological Momentary Assessment, passive sensing, digital biomarkers, and analyses of social media and AI use.

Enhanced Psychotherapy

How these findings can inform the further development of psychotherapy for chronic affective disorders, including treatment stratification and pharmacological or digital augmentation of CBASP and other psychotherapies.
